Stabilizing the spine with advanced fusion techniques guided by Hunt Spine expertise.
Understanding How Spinal Fusion Works
During spinal fusion, bone graft material is placed between affected vertebrae. Over time, this graft forms a solid bridge of bone, eliminating movement at the treated level. Metal hardware may be used to secure alignment and support the fusion while healing occurs. The procedure can be performed through various surgical approaches depending on the area of the spine being treated. These include anterior approaches through the front of the body, posterior approaches through the back, or lateral techniques that minimize tissue disruption. Many fusion procedures can be performed using minimally invasive techniques. These methods reduce muscle involvement and support a more efficient recovery. Our surgeons use real time imaging to guide hardware placement and create the ideal environment for solid, long term fusion.
